Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik was announced on Monday (July 1) as the new batting coach and mentor for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The IPL franchise revealed this appointment through their X (formerly Twitter) handle, expressing excitement about welcoming Karthik back in a new avatar. Karthik is thrilled to continue his association with RCB, a franchise he believes is moving from strength to strength. Known for his commentary skills as well, Karthik had an exceptional last season for RCB, scoring 326 runs at an average of 36.22 with a strike rate of 187.36.
Throughout his IPL career, Karthik represented five franchises: Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, and RCB. He played 257 matches in the IPL, amassing 4,842 runs at an average of 26.32.
International Achievements
Karthik’s international career is equally impressive. Playing for India, he scored 1,752 runs and struck nine half-centuries in 94 ODI matches. In 26 Tests, he accumulated 1,025 runs, including a century against Bangladesh. In T20Is, he scored 686 runs at an average of 26.38 with a strike rate above 142.
