Zampa’s Match-Winning Performance Against England
Adam Zampa bowled a crucial spell in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, leading Australia to victory against England. His performance included taking two wickets and conceding only 28 runs in four overs during Match 17 on Saturday, June 8, at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. Australia won by 36 runs, marking their second consecutive win in the tournament.
Decision to Withdraw from IPL 2024
Reflecting on his decision to pull out of the Indian Premier League 2024, Zampa stated that it was the best choice he made ahead of the World Cup. “I made the decision to pull out of the IPL a little while ago. It turned out to be the best thing for me because of the World Cup ahead. I was tired and down with some niggles. I have a family now, so it is important to put them first overwork,” Zampa said in the post-match press conference. Zampa was initially part of Rajasthan Royals but chose to skip the 17th season to focus on the World Cup.
Preparation for the World Cup
The 32-year-old emphasized the extra effort he had to put in to prepare for the T20 World Cup. “I am a slow starter, and I had to do extra work to get ready. I bowled a bit more than I usually do before any series. It was good to be a part of practice games. I started well in the World Cup,” he added.
Key Wickets Against England
During the match, Jos Buttler (42 off 28) and Phil Salt (37 off 23) added 73 runs while chasing 202. The duo appeared threatening, but Zampa dismissed them, shifting the momentum in Australia’s favor. He was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance. The English side managed to score 165/6 in their 20 overs.
